Relationship between Metabolic Syndrome and Abdominal Obesity (Visceral Adiposities)

mt_noneIncrease of visceral fat has more influence for health than that of fat under the skin. It is?found that a lot of proteins which are called bad factors are made by increase of visceral fat.
In human body, various kinds of protein functions different works and it makes body healthy. But when visceral fat are increased in the body, a lot of bad?proteins are made named “TNF-α”,”PAI-1”, and MCP-1”. It is supposed that these proteins promote the bad symptom like making blocked blood vessel and high blood sugar level.

Adipokine Control Action of Oligonol

In this experiment using mice, Oligonol was administered for five weeks. Production of bad adipokines was controlled on mRNA level with improved good adipokine production on mRNA level. These data strongly suggest a potential of Oligonol acting as a modulating substance of adipokine as well as preventing and improving metabolic syndrome and related heart diseases.

Improvement of Metabolic Syndrome

Test overview: Eighteen male and female adult volunteers showing signs of metabolic syndrome were divided randomly into two groups, Oligonol group and placebo group, which were supplemented with Oligonol and placebo every day for ten weeks respectively. Evaluations by physical study, blood test and abdominal computer tomography(CT) were performed before supplementation, and five weeks and ten weeks after starting the supplementation period.

Result: The Oligonol group showed significant decreases of subcutaneous fat and visceral fat areas compared to those before the supplementation in abdominal CT test. In addition, in data of statistical analysis, there were significant reductions of visceral fat, abdominal circunference and subcutaneous fat.

About Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a condition characterised by obesity around waist circumference, hypertension, and?fasting glucose and abnormal lipid metabolism. The syndrome has been linked to increased risks of both type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

*1 Abdomen size: 85cm or more for males, 90cm or more for females;
visceral fat areas: 100 cm or more for both males and females.
*2 Triglyceride value ≧ 150mg/dl, HDL hypocholesterolemia ≦ 40mg/dl
*3 Systolic ≧ 130mmHg and / or diastolic blood pressure ≧ 85mmHg
*4 Fasting hyperglycemia: ≧ 110mg/dl
